Frequently Asked Questions
How does coaching work?
During our coaching sessions we help clients set & achieve goals, overcome obstacles, work on self-exploration and help clients discover his/her life purpose. We also provide a safe space where clients can openly discuss his/her feelings. We believe that our clients are able to find his/her own answers & solutions to many of life's questions & problems. Our role is to listen to our clients, provide feedback/support and ask thought-provoking questions that lead our clients to greater awareness. There is an educational aspect to our coaching and at times we do provide consulting services. However, we do not counsel clients on medical/psychological issues.
What is the difference between coaching, counseling, consulting & mentoring?
The information below comes verbatim from the International Coach Federation. The leader in providing professional standards for coaches around the world.
Coaching - A thought-provoking, creative process that inspires clients to maximize their personal and professional potential. Coaching supports personal and professional growth based on self-initiated change in pursuit of specific actionable outcomes. These outcomes are linked to personal or professional success. Coaching is future focused. While positive feelings/emotions may be a natural outcome of coaching, the primary focus is on creating actionable strategies for achieving specific goals in one's work or personal life. The emphasis in a coaching relationship is on action, accountability and follow through. Coaching assumes that the client is capable of generating his/her own solutions, with the coach supplying supportive, discovery-based approaches and frameworks. The coaching process does not include giving advice.
Counseling - Therapy deals with healing pain, dysfunction and conflict within an individual or in relationships. The focus is often on resolving difficulties arising from the past that hamper an individual's emotional functioning in the present. Improving overall psychological functioning, and dealing with the present in more emotionally healthy ways.
Consulting - Individuals or organizations retain consultants for their expertise. While consulting approaches vary widely, the assumption is the consultant will diagnose problems and prescribe and, sometimes, implement solutions.
Mentoring - A mentor is an expert who provides wisdom and guidance based on his or her own experience. Mentoring may include advising, counseling and coaching.

We do not tell students what to do but empower them to make positive changes and guide them in finding the solutions and/or steps that are right for them. Every student is different and we cannot advise a student on the best step to take, that is ultimately the students' decision. We are here to listen, educate and inspire. Our goal is to help students be successful, independent and self aware.
